Referrals, practice training and consultancy
Pain medicine is a young discipline. If you have a patient who isn't responding, a team who wants to get better at pain scoring, or an organisation that needs an independent expert voice, start here.
Refer a patient
We see dogs and cats with chronic and complex pain, including patients who have already been through orthopaedics, neurology or internal medicine. You get a written report after every appointment.
After an in-person consultation we take on clinical responsibility and can prescribe and dispense for up to three months, in line with RCVS guidance, after which it returns to you unless we see the patient again. Online consultations work differently: prescribing and clinical responsibility stay with you throughout.
Cases we are most useful for: poorly controlled osteoarthritis, patients on multiple analgesics with a limited response, suspected neuropathic pain, lumbosacral disease, and animals where the source of pain has not been pinned down.
Referrals can be sent through the referral portal, by email, or by picking up the phone if you would rather talk it through first.
Pain management training for your whole practice team
Sessions are built around what your practice actually needs and can run online or in person, from a focused lunchtime session through to longer mentorship. Training is based on current evidence and delivered in plain, practical terms, with an emphasis on what you can use on Monday morning.
- Clinical case support, including appointments and MSK ultrasound for complex pain cases
- Review and discussion of sedation and pre-anaesthetic protocols
- CRI management, pain scoring, post-operative analgesia and local anaesthetic technique
- Hands-on instruction during surgery, including nerve block training
- Osteoarthritis screening, diagnosis and management for the whole team
- Mentorship for vets and nurses working towards pain management certificates

Consultancy
Independent expertise in pain management and animal welfare, drawing on both clinical practice and specialist recognition in welfare science, ethics and law.
